The ‘Salaam…’ series introduces Muslim Pro team members to our more than 100 million strong audience. Get to know what we do, what we are like and how it is working for the number 1 Muslim app in the world!
What do you actually do in Muslim Pro?
It’s really a team effort to plan and manage resources to address stakeholders’ needs. First and foremost, addressing what our users around the world expect from Muslim Pro as a product on their phone or the website, and as part of their day-to-day life. It also means diving deep into the usage of our app and the overall industry within our category, in addition to seeing larger trends outside our category.
In essence, we see ourselves as diplomats; collecting and searching for the needs and problems of different groups and converting them into actionable projects and processes. At the same time, we advocate our ideas and translate them into measurable targets before we roll them out.
What does it take to be part of the team?
You must genuinely love what you do, or what you are trying to pursue. When we talk to each other in the team, we feel the high energy of wanting to make a better product for the world. To achieve that, we keep on learning, share knowledge and acknowledge gaps, or highlight something that is not right. That means we advocate our ideas and do the footwork to propose new features or designs.
It’s not about us, but about our users out there in the real world. Keep in mind that you might have very different needs when residing in Norway compared to Malaysia.
If you are a team player, really love apps and web solutions, and want to contribute in building a product that helps millions around the world, you are very welcome at Muslim Pro.
Share with us what a typical day at work would be like?
We spend about 20 per cent of our time in meetings which means we need to prepare or recap quite a bit. Being mindful of the time, we usually plan roughly two weeks ahead while keeping an eye over our roadmap for the next two years. Since we work cross-department, there are many processes, touch points and conversations to enjoy.
We are still a very young company, so chances are that most of the things we do are first times within Muslim Pro and require new process documentation to streamline future projects. Thus, we need the flexibility to react.
What has been the most memorable moment while being on the job?
It was prior to Ramadan 2020, when we were working on the brand new Khatam feature. We wanted to adapt the Khatam tradition and Quran reading groups into a digital form despite the COVID pandemic. We really wanted to facilitate the ummah around the world with the tools to read the Quran together as a group without the risk of spreading COVID.
It was this dynamic cross-department work that really invigorated us. It demonstrated the open-door company style we work in. Even if you are not from the Product department, you can make an impact on the product itself, on the very stories, functionality, and content inside Muslim Pro. Potentially millions of people around the world will see your idea.
